After reaching 75 courses played by the end of 2015 of my Aussie Golf Quest, with The National Golf Club Ocean course reaching that milestone. It was a bit of a slow start to 2016 though, I was a bit apprehensive to play too many courses with a new Top 100 list being released in March/April for both Australian Golf Digest and Golf Australia Magazine.
The National Golf Club Moonah Course – 6th Hole
The new Golf Digest list saw three courses I had played fall from the list, Peninsula Kingswood South course and Royal Canberra, both due to major renovations. With the Palmer Gold Coast being the last. A previously played course, RACV Royal Pines came onto the list, although I am not counting this as major renovations were carried out after I had played. This took the total back to 72.
Barwon Heads Golf Club – 4th Hole
I have now managed to get the list back up to 77, So far this year games have been at:
- Barwon Heads Golf Club
- Thirteenth Beach Golf Links (Creek)
- The National Golf Club (Moonah)
- Riverside Oaks Resort (Bungool)
- Spring Valley Golf Club
Funnily enough, The National Golf Club again saw the 75 target reached again. There was also a replay of Victoria Golf Club, allowing a full review to be completed with images.
Victoria Golf Club – 1st Hole
I have now set a deadline of completing the Australian Golf Digest Top 100 by 2018, aiming to reach 91 played by the end of 2016. This will see trips to every state in Australia over the next two years.
The next major trip is to Western Australia in June with the aim of completing the remaining five courses:
- Araluen Golf Resort
- Meadow Springs
- Secret Harbour
- The Cut
- Kalgoorlie
I have also started adding some backdated trips to various courses, as some readers have noticed, to ensure most of the trip is documented. I am planning to replay a few courses, which to enable a more up to date review to be published. This will include Avondale Golf Club and Terrey Hills Golf & Country Club.
Spring Valley Golf Club – 18th Hole
There is some work being carried out on the site as well, bringing a fresh look to some areas. All I know is the next 2 years are going to be very hectic, but well worth the trip. Hope you enjoy the read of the travels.
