Making the trip to Perth to cash in on one of my birthday presents, playing one of the Top 100 courses, I decided to take advantage and play an extra course close to my hosts residence, Casa Del Como. With only two courses left to play in the city, I decided on the Western Australian Golf Club, not really knowing much about the course before the visit.
Magenta Shores Golf & Country Club
Magenta Shores was completed in 2006, aimed at being residential housing, along with a hotel resort. The course was designed by renowned Australian designer, Ross Watson. The course is located 1 ½ hours north of Sydney.
Pebble Beach Golf Links
Stopping at Monterey to catch-up with friends on the way to Los Angeles, the temptation to play Pebble Beach was too hard to resist. Having played the course so many times on the PC, it was time to step into the real world and physically play a round at this iconic golf course.
NSW Golf Club
NSW Golf Club is located in La Perouse, on the northern head of Botany Bay. This site overlooks the landing spot of Captain Cook in 1770 on the southern headland. This is a great links course which should not be missed.
Narooma Golf Club
In a bid for 2011 to finish playing most of the Top 100 courses in NSW, Narooma was next to cross of the list. Packing the family, my wife and two dogs we set off for the long trip south. Narooma is located around 5 hours south of Sydney on the coastline.
Mt Lawley Golf Club
Mt Lawley Golf Club originally formed in 1927, when local residents in the area initiated meetings to establish a golf club. A site was selected (the current site) and funds raised, which initially saw the development of a 10 hole course which members eventually were able to play in 1930.
The Vines Resort & Country Club – Ellenbrook
With only half a day left on my visit to Perth, I decided to take advantage of being at the Vines Resort and play the Ellenbrook course. The Vines is located around 40 minutes north east from Perth city, in the Swan Valley (renown as a wine region).
Kooindah Waters Golf Club
Kooindah Waters was established as part of a residential estate and golf resort, north of Sydney in 2006. Designed by Ross Watson, in conjunction with Craig Parry (the ambassador of the club and Australian professional golf champion), the course is managed by the Troon group.
Ranfurlie Golf Club
The Ranfurlie course is a links style course. It is very open with little trees and runs away from the clubhouse which overlooks the whole site. From the clubhouse views of the city are also available. Being so open exposes the course to the elements.
Peninsula Kingswood Country Golf Club North Course
Peninsula C.G.C. was established in 1925 in Frankston. It was originally supposed to be an 18 hole course for men and a 9 hole course for women, but completion of this complex did not happen until 1948. For the first few years of the club it operated as an 11 hole course, until 1926 when the final 7 holes were completed.
