Catching the Virgin plane to Gold Coast

Dropping Everything To Play Top 100 Golf

When an opportunity arises to access one of the more exclusive clubs in the country, it’s a case of dropping everything to play top 100 golf courses.

I now have only three courses proving difficult to gain access to, Ellerston, Royal Sydney Golf Club and The Grand Golf Club. When I stumbled across an email, for an open day being held at The Grand Golf Club, I couldn’t believe my eyes. Firstly I had missed the email and it had been sitting there for two days. Secondly, I’m not sure how I was even on the mailing list. This must have been after inquiring via email about tee times a year or two ago.

Calling to see about availability I didn’t manage to reach the person responsible. After a three hour wait, I finally had a tee time confirmed. Being such short notice it was a mad panic to arrange flights, accommodation, oh and annual leave. Yes I do actually work in between all of this fun. Unfortunately I don’t have a money tree in the back yard. To make it even more worthwhile I added an extra day to complete another course in the area, RACV Royal Pines, seeing 79 courses being played by the end of the week.

Major prize won at The Social Golf Club day - Titliest Golf Bag

My winning prize at Spring Valley Golf Club

So here you find me on a flight to the Gold Coast, slumming it on Virgin Australia (not really a fan), with some insight into the drastic action that is required to finish my golf quest. This really tops off a great couple of weeks, where I managed to gain access to a Melbourne Sandbelt course, Spring Valley Golf Club, via an event held by The Social Golf Club. On top of that, winning the days major prize, a Titliest Tour Bag, which by the way is way to big for my travel bag, then gaining access to one of my hardest courses to access on the list, The Grand Golf Club.

Read about the trip in the coming weeks. Happy golfing.
