The Golf Snob

I’ve been called many things before, but being called a golf snob caught me a little off guard.  This is probably the furthest thing from what I would consider myself, but the comment was out there, not going away, so I had to sit back and really think about it.

Man drinking wineLet me put this into context first, I was not referred to as the type of snob that first comes to mind, walking around with nose in the air, looking down at others.  No I am a golf course snob and it was my wife who called me out. We were at a party, when golf came up in the conversation with one of the guests. The usual things came up, where do you play, what is your handicap, then lastly, hey maybe we should catch up for a game.  A course suggestion comes up, then my wife pipes in, is that in the Top 100? If its not he won’t play there, he is a golf snob.  So there it was, out in the open, being called out.

My defence? Well there are so many courses to play, still so many left in the top 100 and I only get out for a game every so often, if I don’t the quest will never finish. No it wasn’t going to cut it, face it you are a golf snob when it comes to playing at golf courses.

So this has made me re-evaluate a little, my aim is now to ensure I do try and play as many varied courses as possible. It’s all about the fresh air, relaxation and company of others isn’t it? But if they are in the top 100 list, I won’t complain.
